Have you ever
started a task with a sneaking suspicion it was beyond you? My
university course in Organic Chemistry was like that. It wasn't
actually beyond me but it did take me two attempts before I passed it (technically
the 52% I earned on my second attempt was a pass).
Maybe homeschooling is like this for some of us. We have a
conviction this is best for our children, but we wonder if we are up
for the task. And so while we are daunted we press on in giving our
children the finest education money can't buy.
Right now, Karen
and I are facing another one of these daunting tasks. As of this month
we have agreed to edit the Learning at Home newsletter. Maybe this is
no big deal. After all, many in the RVHEA are doing a great deal more
to support and encourage homeschoolers in our area. But it is a task we
find daunting. So why take on a task that will require time and effort?
Why take on a task that will stretch us? One big reason is because
RVHEA is a volunteer organization. RVHEA can be a blessing in a lot of
lives, but only if a lot of people find some way to help. For many
people, editing a newsletter isn't a big deal. And maybe we'll find out
it isn't a big deal for us. But at this point it's something we think is going
to stretch us..
You can make the
job easier on us. This is your newsletter and we need you to
contribute. We are looking for articles on homeschooling and family
life. We can't promise to publish every article we receive, but we want
to see what you have to say. The best newsletters will have articles
from people we know and care about. There will be original content and
reprints from some of the best existing sources. We hope to have
a monthly editorial, and this may even cause us to receive some letters
to the editor!
